About Us!
The Liquid Assets Difference:
Wow, where to start! Aquaholics, Inc. is operated and staffed solely by it's owners. Tom (that's me, the principal) was lucky enough to have escaped the dark clutches of the MAN (specifically telecom). Kelly (the wife) still works for the MAN, but its not really the MAN, its actually the NUN, and thats a good thing. Anyway, As owners, we have a vested interest in providing you nothing but the greatest level of service and highest quality products. Combined we offer a wealth of over 30 years experience in reefing and the saltwater fish trade.
Our Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide the greatest selection, highest QoS (Quality of Service), and healthiest specimens. We are dedicated to reef conservation, and believe we, as a business have an ethical obligation to create a genetic archive of sorts of spectacular pieces from around the world. It is our mission to proliferate these species across the nation with hobbiest. Let's face it, global warming is real, whether caused by man or by nature, but truely threatens reefs around the world. It is time to do something about it, and our goal is to breed these animals in capitivity so that these strains are preseverved. In addition, 10% of total profit at the end of the fiscal year will be donated to reef preservation/ research societies (more on that later).
History:
Some of you will remember our prior ventures, including our fiasco of a store in Fredericksburg (lets not even get into it), but all of that is what lead us here and provides us with access to stellar suppliers. Due to our longevity in the business, not only do we have extensive knowledge (specifically sps), but ties in the Pacific which allow us to get the rare, odd, and seldom seen.
My love for this hobby and trade started 15 years ago with a 55 reef (or at least thats what we called it). Foreign to us was wet dry filtration, protein skimmers, uv sterilizers, wave makers, halide, yadda, yadda, yadda. We could not even keep mushrooms alive (when I say "we" here, I mean myself and my hoodlum friends, I had not quite met my wife yet). However, it did not take long to become familiar with the ins and outs of keeping saltwater fish, and yes even mushrooms (at the time, one of the most exotic corals to be seen at the time was the hammer!).
Next I decided to try my hand at shark keeping and bought a 160 show Oceanic, which has housed a spectacular reef for the last 7 years). At the time, the tank housed multiple Triggers and a 3 ft Nurse Shark. The novelty wore off after a year or two, and decided to branch out into show Angels and other exotic fish, while at the same time ever expanding my obsesion of reefkeeping with the 55. Soon the reef won, and the 160 became a full blown reef with SPS as LPS as the main focal point.
I had developed such a love and interest for this hobby I decided to pursue a degree in Marine Biology, but soon learned that jobs in the field, unless you are very lucky, are few and far in between. I ended up pursuing a Masters in Business, and have now come full circle with the creation of Aquaholics, Inc.!
In 2004 I decided to launch an internet based operation selling corals over the net. While things went well, I could not keep up with the business as a result of working 60+ hours a week for the MAN. In 2005, I decided to concentrate the business on frag production as I had acquired quite a few spectacular pieces and shipping frags was so much easier compared to shipping colonies. Fortunately for me, in early 2006 the telecom firm I was with merged with another, siginificant Reductions In Force ensued and now we are setting up Aquaholics, Inc.!
We are much indebted to our customers who have helped us make this happen! We are solely dedicated to providing spectacular, high quality specimens at fair prices. We firmly believe in reef conservation, this hobby has provided for the exponential growth in knowledge of these magnificent animals. While we will import a few wild colonies, most of the colonies we maintain are cultivated. Being part of this hobby, we have an ethical obligation to proliferate species and share as much knowledge about these animals as humanly possible.
Once again, thank you for you interest, we hope you enjoy your experience with Aquaholics, Inc.
Sincerely,
Tom Griffith
